Water Shiatsu grew out of the principles of Zen Shiatsu, which emphasizes stretching to heal and open up the body, a method practiced in the eastern world even before acupuncture and ayurveda. Water not only relaxes the body, but it also takes weight off the joints of the vertebrae, and frees the spine in ways impossible on land. Conditions that place stress on the joints (arthritis, obesity and osteoporosis) are specially addressed in Water Shiatsu.   
 

As soon as you step into the pool, relaxation is immediate. The therapist supports the receiver’s weight and the receiver floats into a unique world of breath and fluid movements. Moved through the water, stretched, cradled and massaged, the receiver becomes aware of her entire body. Tensions dissolve and the receiver feel life expanding into long-ignored places. The back, neck, shoulders, arms, hips and legs – every part of the body is invited to release and move freely.
